Day 1: Departure to Edinburgh
– LNER speed train to Edinburgh from Kings Cross Station (Platform 9 ¾): Our trip began in London, and we opted to take the speed train to Edinburgh by way of Kings Cross Station. We couldn’t resist a Harry Potter-inspired photo opportunity at Platform 9 ¾, a delightful nod to J.K. Rowling’s magical world. A tip: opt for the first class option on LNER. This will make your journey that much more enjoyable, and it comes with breakfast and coffee service.
– The Scotsman Hotel: Our arrival in Edinburgh was met with anticipation, and we checked into The Scotsman Hotel. This historic hotel, located in the heart of the city, was a charming blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort. Its central location made it an ideal base for our exploration of the city. The room we booked was especially large compared to other European hotels, and we were greeted with a bottle of bubbles!
– Palace of Holyroodhouse: Eager to start our Scottish adventure, we wasted no time and set out to explore Edinburgh’s historic treasures. The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, was our first stop. The regal architecture and lush gardens were a testament to the royal history of the city.
– St. Giles Cathedral: Located on the Royal Mile, St. Giles Cathedral was another architectural gem we couldn’t resist exploring. The stunning stained glass windows, intricate stonework, and serene ambiance made it a sanctuary of tranquility.

– Arthur’s Seat: Our day began with a breathtaking adventure as we set out for a scenic walk to Arthur’s Seat. – Dalhousie Castle: Leaving behind The Scotsman Hotel, we embarked on a journey to Dalhousie Castle, a luxury castle hotel located on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The castle’s historic charm, elegant rooms, and tranquil surroundings welcomed us to a different world. The grandeur of the castle’s exterior and the picturesque setting along the banks of the River Esk hinted at the enchantment that awaited inside. The castle’s on-site amenities, such as hiking, archery, falconry, and a spa, provide opportunities for relaxation and exploration.
– Dinner at Foundry 39: In the evening, we ventured into town for dinner at Foundry 39. It was trivia night, and we found ourselves engrossed in lively competition with the locals. The food, the drinks, and the camaraderie created a memorable evening filled with laughter and fun. Foundry 39’s vibrant ambiance, with its mix of locals and travelers, offered a glimpse into the lively social scene of Edinburgh. (Update: Unfortunately, this business is now permanently closed.)

– A Fairytale Wedding at Dalhousie Castle: The next day was dedicated to a joyous celebration. We attended a beautiful wedding at Dalhousie Castle, a venue that perfectly embodied the romance and history of Scotland.
Day 4: Relaxation or Exploration in Edinburgh
– Spa Day: The day after the wedding offered a choice between relaxation and exploration. Two of us opted for a rejuvenating spa day at Dalhousie Castle. The expert therapists provide a range of treatments, from massages to facials, tailored to your individual preferences. The spa’s facilities, including a heated pool and a jacuzzi, offer an additional layer of tranquility.
– Rosslyn Chapel: For those seeking adventure, Rosslyn Chapel was a captivating destination. The medieval ambiance, the candlelit atmosphere, and the delicious fare added a touch of romance to our evening. The menu featured a range of gourmet dishes, and we savored every bite of our meal. The staff at the Dungeon Restaurant went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was memorable. It was a fitting way to conclude our adventure in Edinburgh.
