If you’re seeking a delightful escape that combines exquisite wines, charming streets, and unforgettable experiences, look no further than Fredericksburg, Texas. Nestled in the heart of the Hill Country, this quaint town offers a plethora of wineries, cozy hideaways, and culinary delights that will leave you enchanted. Join me as I recount my recent adventure to Fredericksburg, sharing the itinerary, insider tips, and favorite moments that made this trip an absolute gem.
Friday: A Taste of Welcome
We kicked off our journey by making our way to Fredericksburg, TX from Houston. While the 290 trail of wineries is a popular route, we decided to make a pit stop at William Chris Vineyards. William Chris offered a $25 wine tasting experience that lasted for about 50 minutes. The staff was informative, and the grounds were beautiful.

Additional recommendations for the drive in:
- Ab Astris: A spot repeatedly recommended by locals!
- Kuhlman Cellars: A $25 wine tasting comes with the option to add a chef-prepared food sampler or charcuterie. Talk about a perfect pairing! The indoor ambiance at Kuhlman is cozy and inviting.
Our accommodation for the weekend was the Peach Street Retreat, an Airbnb located just a short walk away from Main Street. Clean, comfortable, and within easy reach of all the action, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. We booked it directly through Airbnb, but you can also find it (as well as other options) on Cozi Vacation Rentals.
For dinner our first night, we ventured to Hill & Vine. The drinks and dinner were both great, and there was live music happening outside as we waited for our table. As an alternative, you might consider Granite House Lounge, which opens at 5pm and doesn’t require reservations. We also heard good things about Chase’s Place for cocktails, although we didn’t get a chance to go there ourselves.

Saturday: A Wine-Filled Day Aboard the 290 Wine Shuttle
Our Saturday began with a leisurely 15-minute walk from our Airbnb to catch the 10:15 shuttle for the 290 Wine Shuttle, which operates from 10am to 6pm and leaves every 10 minutes. A convenient and stress-free way to explore the wineries without worrying about driving! The shuttle will also hold any purchases you may make along the way.
Our first stop was Slate Theory, and let me tell you, it clinched the top spot on our list of favorite experiences. Their charcuterie plate for $16 was perfect for sharing among four, and the wines were simply delectable. The private enclave within the cave was a unique and memorable touch, and I have recommended this stop time and time again to family & friends since visiting!
We then made our way to Texas Wine Collective, which was more of a quick-stop for us, and then headed to Grape Creek Winery, which was a worthwhile visit. We enjoyed a $25 tasting, but note that the patio is for members only. If you’re planning to visit Heath Sparkling right after (they’re on the same property), it’s a convenient option.
Speaking of Heath Sparkling, their $35 tasting comes with delightful small pairing bites. The tasting itself is informative, and the views here are stunning. But let’s face it, the sparkling wine stole the show!

Sunday: Wineries Worth the Drive
Sunday brought a new adventure as we booked a private driver to navigate the day’s itinerary. The driver took the guesswork out of navigation and waiting on Uber drives throughout the day. His car came packed with water and snacks, and he was always ready to take us to our next stop! We planned our stops this day based on wineries that were more out-of-the-way and not included on the 290 wine shuttle.
We embarked on a 20-minute drive to Signor Vineyard, where walking in without a membership allowed us to enjoy the grounds while sipping from a glass. The property provided picturesque spots for a picnic.

Next up, we headed to Narrow Path Winery. A $25 tasting for 45 minutes included not only delightful wines but also a scrumptious charcuterie offering. The outdoor tasting experience was the cherry on top.
Our journey continued with a drive to Augusta Vin, a standout on our list. Having been to Fredericksburg before, this winery was at the top of my “must visit” list when planning this trip. A tasting will provide you with incredible wines and an even more breathtaking view. We opted for a bottle of their exquisite petite syrah to share.

While time didn’t permit us to visit Santa Maria Cellars, it’s a highly recommended spot that we’ll make sure to explore next time.
To wind down the day, we quickly freshened up at the house and then took a 12-minute walk to Lincoln Street Bar. This hole-in-the-wall gem offered live music, generous pours, and a cozy ambiance. If you’re looking for something lively, Crossroads Saloon was just a 7-minute walk away, and we enjoyed their live music as we danced our final night away!
Monday: Farewell, Fredericksburg
As our unforgettable weekend drew to a close, we embarked on the drive back to Houston, cherishing all that Texas Wine Country had to offer.
